Our main objective is to help low-income individuals who have little work experience find and retain employment. We work one-on-one with individual clients who must overcome barriers to employment such as inadequate child care, spotty work history, low educational levels, domestic violence situations, or substance abuse issues. Our programs enable individual clients to gain the experience and skills they need to fit into todays competitive job market. We have two programs Phialdelphia@Work and Family Works that help clients start on the road to self-sufficiency.

Philadelphia@Work
is a transitional jobs program designed to provide
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients with the motivation,
skills, and experience they need to find and keep a full-time unsubsidized job.
Clients attend two weeks of intense job-readiness training and then work for six months in a transitional job. This transitional job, or paid work experience, is a crucial component of the Philadelphia@Work program. Clients gain hands-on experience and receive guidance from a work partner, who acts as an on-the-job mentor.
While working 25 hours per week, clients attend 10 hours of professional development training designed to enhance their job skills. At the end of the transitional phase, our staff works with clients to help them obtain full-time employment.
Our staff continues to provide retention services to clients for their first six to nine months of full-time permanent employment. This additional support is to ensure the success of each participant in his or her transition from the world of welfare to the world of work.
We offer bonuses of up to
$800 to those clients who retain their full-time jobs for up to six months.
We have adapted the Philadelphia@Work program to meet the needs of those clients who have limited English proficiency.
In response to the need for extended services, TWC began the Family Works program to help entry-level workers advance in their careers and secure a better salary. To be eligible, clients must also have gross earned income that does not exceed 235% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
Through a grant from the PA Bureau of Employment and Training, Family Works provides cash incentives for retaining a job for six months longer than the Philadelphia@Work program or for obtaining a job that offers a 25% salary increase and/or benefits within six months. Participants also continue to receive transportation passes.
In addition to cash incentives and staff support, Family Works provides participants with the opportunity to take advantage of internal and/or outside classes focusing on professional development designed to increase their overall marketability. Family Works offers funding for:
Microsoft Office certification
Certified nursing assistant training
Security licensing
Janitorial arts focusing on the general upkeep of electrical
devices
